The short answer: as of October 17, 2026, Gifu Prefecture is not running any traveler campaign that discounts the room rate itself. Lodging discounts like “Hotto Hitoiki, Gifu no Tabi” (2021–22) or “Otoku na Heijitsu★Gifu Trip” (2023) appear nowhere on the Gifu Prefecture Tourism Federation’s home page, travel-booking page or news list.
What the prefecture is running now is the “Gifu Prefecture Outdoor Tourism Campaign” (September 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027): perks redeemed by scanning a QR code at participating businesses, a prize draw for social-media posts, and a flat-rate expressway touring plan. None of it discounts room rates, but it can be combined with a stay to make the whole trip cheaper. The other scheme, the “Weekday Stay & Gifu-Hashima Station Use Promotion Subsidy,” is aimed at travel agencies — it is not a discount individuals can apply for.
And even without a discount, Gifu can be cheap if you choose well. On OTA listed prices (as of October 2026, 2 guests per room, tax included), November 2026 stays at 39 properties in Gero are ¥28,200 per room, 10.6% lower than a year earlier, and business hotels in Gifu City, Ogaki and Hashima come in at around ¥12,000–15,000 per room. Below, we cover “what you can use now” and “how to stay cheaply without it,” in that order.
- — No prefectural lodging discount: as of October 17, 2026, Gifu Prefecture is not running any traveler campaign that discounts the room rate itself.
- — The Gifu Prefecture Outdoor Tourism Campaign (September 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027) centers on in-store perks, a social-media prize draw and a flat-rate expressway plan; two days of touring within the prefecture cost ¥4,900 for a standard car.
- — Furusato nozei (hometown tax) lodging coupons (worth 30% of the donation) are the only route that effectively lowers what you pay for a room.
- — Gero’s 39 properties list November 2026 stays at ¥28,193 per room, −10.6% year on year, so even in the autumn-leaves season you can stay for less than last year (2 guests per room, tax included).
- — Ogaki at ¥14,912 and Hashima at ¥13,061: a station-front base keeps the bill lowest, and in Takayama, avoiding the November autumn-leaves peak can save tens of thousands of yen.
Campaigns and Coupons You Can Use for Gifu Hotels Now (Checked October 17, 2026)
We list only schemes whose operation we could confirm on official websites, in the order prefecture, municipalities, furusato nozei. The right-hand column shows whether the room rate itself goes down.
| Scheme | Operator / period | Usable by individuals? | Effect on the room rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gifu Prefecture Outdoor Tourism Campaign (in-store QR-code perks, social-media post prize draw) | Gifu Prefecture / September 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027 | Yes (no app needed; scan the code at participating businesses) | Lodging facilities are among participating businesses, but perks vary by business (price discounts, drink service, novelty goods, etc.). Check amounts on the official coupon map |
| Hayatabi “Gifu Prefecture Touring Drive Plan 2026” | NEXCO Central Japan (tie-up with the prefectural campaign) / July 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027 | Yes (ETC-equipped cars; apply online before use) | Makes expressway tolls, not lodging, a flat rate. Two days of touring within the prefecture cost ¥4,900 for a standard car (regular tolls on the model route: ¥7,460) |
| Furusato nozei lodging coupons | Each municipality / year-round (valid for 3 years from the donation date) | Yes (30% of the donation is issued as a coupon on a hotel booking site) | Many municipalities in the prefecture are eligible, including Takayama, Gero, Gifu City, Hida and Gujo (eligible municipalities and properties vary by booking site and donation amount). The only scheme that effectively lowers lodging costs |
| FY2026 Weekday Stay & Gifu-Hashima Station Use Promotion Subsidy | Gifu Prefecture Tourism Federation / April 1, 2026 – return by February 28, 2027 | No (for travel agencies’ packaged tours) | Travel agencies receive ¥2,000 per weekday guest (capped at ¥300,000 after the June 1 revision of the guidelines; remaining budget is limited). Works indirectly, through the price of weekday tours |
| Municipal lodging coupons (Gifu City, Takayama, Gero, Gujo) | — | — | As of October 17, 2026, no lodging discounts were listed on any of the official websites (details below) |
Sources: official websites of the Gifu Prefecture Tourism Federation, Gifu Prefecture, NEXCO Central Japan and each municipality (accessed October 17, 2026); municipalities eligible for furusato nozei coupons are from booking sites’ eligibility lists (as displayed on October 18, 2026).
Combining the Prefecture’s Outdoor Tourism Campaign with Your Stay
This is the prefectural measure individuals can use right now. It runs from September 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027, and has three components.
1. In-store QR-code perks. Outdoor facilities, lodgings, restaurants and souvenir shops in the prefecture register as “perk partners,” and scanning the QR code at their counter gets you a discount or a novelty item. No dedicated app is required; the prefecture’s materials list examples such as “price discounts / drink service / gifts / extended activity time.” However, perks differ by business, so you need to check each one on the official coupon map (mountains, rivers, villages, hot springs, Hida beef restaurants and more — 25 genres). At the time of writing we could not confirm specific amounts on the map, so the realistic approach is to check on the map which perk your intended lodging offers before booking.
2. Flat-rate expressway touring plan. The tie-up “Gifu Prefecture Touring Drive Plan 2026” from NEXCO Central Japan offers ETC-equipped cars prefecture-wide touring for ¥4,300 for one day and ¥4,900 for two days (standard car), and wider-area routes including Nagano, Shiga and Hokuriku for ¥6,800–8,100 over 2–3 days. On the model route — two days from Ichinomiya IC covering Sekigahara, Gujo-Hachiman and Toki — the regular ¥7,460 drops to ¥4,900. If your itinerary takes you by car to Takayama, Gero and Shirakawa-go, this is where you recoup the missing lodging discount. Some dates are excluded, so check the official site before use.
3. Booking-site plans and a social-media draw. The prefecture offers lodging plans combining outdoor activities with hot springs and food on booking sites (listing deadlines differ by site: some run to November 29, 2026, others to February 28, 2027), but the official page gives no discount rates or coupon amounts, so these are best seen as “plans with activities included” rather than “cheaper plans.” Social-media hashtag posts (#楽しすぎるぞ岐阜) are accepted until December 31, 2026, with outdoor gear and local products as prizes.
The “Weekday Stay Subsidy” Is for Travel Agencies — Why Weekday Tours Come Out Cheaper
The “Weekday Stay & Gifu-Hashima Station Use Promotion Subsidy” that shows up in searches is not something individuals apply for. It covers domestic packaged tours using Gifu-Hashima Station. Since the guidelines were revised on June 1, 2026, tours that include at least one weekday night in the prefecture, at least 15 (paying) participants and visits to at least one tourist facility in the prefecture, and that run between September 1, 2026 and February 28, 2027 (return date), earn the travel agency ¥2,000 per weekday guest (capped at ¥300,000). The original April guidelines were much stricter — departure points roughly 500 km or more by road from Gifu-Hashima Station, at least two weekday nights, at least 100 participants and a ¥500,000 cap — and the revision relaxed them substantially. Because of the remaining budget, however, the number of tours that can newly be approved is limited.
What it means for travelers is that “weekday Gifu tours using Gifu-Hashima Station are underpinned by ¥2,000 per person on the travel agency’s side.” When you see weekday tours from the Tokyo area or Kyushu taking the shinkansen to Takayama or Gero on an agency’s website, and they look better than booking yourself, this subsidy is one of the reasons. If you travel independently, it is quicker to build your trip from the price patterns in the next section than to count on this scheme.
Staying Cheaply Without a Discount — Actual Prices in Gifu by City and Property Type
Now for the main part. Using OTA listed prices (snapshot as of October 2026, 2 guests per room, per room, tax included), we look at prices for November 2026 stays in the main cities and their year-on-year change.
Figure 1: OTA listed prices by main city in Gifu Prefecture (November 2026 stays, 2 guests per room, tax included) and year-on-year change. N = number of listed properties in each city (Gifu City 22, Ogaki 8, Hashima 7, Gero 39, Gujo 18, Takayama 88). Takayama’s YoY figure is for reference only, as it includes a change in listing mix. Source: HotelBank Editorial Team research (as of October 2026).
| City | Properties | Nov 2026 listed price (2 guests/room, tax incl.) | YoY | Oct 2026 listed price | YoY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gifu City | 22 | ¥27,623 | +15.5% | ¥27,781 | +9.7% |
| Ogaki | 8 | ¥14,912 | +3.9% | ¥14,415 | −8.0% |
| Hashima | 7 | ¥13,061 | +16.0% | ¥12,574 | +0.4% |
| Gero | 39 | ¥28,193 | −10.6% | ¥28,340 | −12.3% |
| Gujo | 18 | ¥30,554 | +16.8% | ¥32,182 | +21.0% |
| Takayama | 88 | ¥65,457 | Reference only (note) | ¥57,216 | Reference only (note) |
Note: Takayama’s year-on-year changes (+42.6% for October 2026, +77.2% for November) include a change in listing mix: listed properties grew from 79 to 91 (October) in one year, adding higher-priced inns. Aggregated using each property’s daily median, November 2026 comes to ¥38,100 (N=294 properties); the mean is pulled up by a few expensive inns. Three Ways to Stay Cheaply Without a Discount — Gero, Station-Front Bases, and Avoiding the Autumn-Leaves Peak
From the table and Figure 1, there are three ways to keep your bill down in Gifu now that there is no lodging discount.
Gero is cheaper than last year. November stays at Gero’s 39 properties are ¥28,200 per room, −10.6% year on year, and October stays are −12.3% — listed prices have fallen despite the autumn-leaves season. If you want a hot-spring ryokan, Gero is this year the area in the prefecture where you can most easily “stay for less than last year without a discount.” December stays are ¥30,600 (33 properties, −1.7% YoY), a little over ¥2,000 more than November, so aim for November if you want the autumn leaves and November weekdays if price comes first. Looking at each inn’s cheapest months and days by day-of-week medians, as in Gero Suimeikan: Review Trends, Rates, and Cheapest Months and Days [2026] (yadolist, in Japanese), the gaps are large: at some inns a Tuesday–Thursday night costs about 60% of a Saturday night.
Gifu City, Ogaki and Hashima sit in the ¥12,000–15,000 business-hotel range. The 115 business hotels across the prefecture list November stays at ¥15,900 per room (2 guests, tax included), or around ¥8,000 per person. Ogaki (8 properties, ¥14,900) and Hashima (7 properties, ¥13,100) are below the prefectural average, and a “base stay” in front of the shinkansen’s Gifu-Hashima Station or Ogaki Station, getting around on the Takayama Line and Tokaido Line, keeps the bill lowest for business and leisure alike. Gifu City is at 22 properties and ¥27,600, +15.5% YoY, but that is a citywide average including city hotels and higher-priced inns; business hotels near the station can be found close to the prefectural average.
Avoid the November autumn-leaves peak, or shift to weekdays. Takayama, at 88 properties and ¥65,500, is the most expensive in the prefecture, and November brings the autumn Takayama Festival together with the autumn leaves. Moving your Takayama nights to late October or December, or visiting Takayama as a day trip and staying in Gero, Hida-Furukawa or Gujo, makes a difference of tens of thousands of yen per room. How the peak month for rates shifts from city to city is tracked month by month in Gifu Hotel ADR 2026: Autumn Peaks Split Oct, Nov and Dec by Area.
Figure 2: OTA listed prices by property type in Gifu Prefecture (November 2026 stays, 2 guests per room, tax included). N = 115 business hotels, 12 city hotels, 30 minshuku (guesthouses), 206 ryokan. Source: HotelBank Editorial Team research (as of October 2026).
By property type, 115 business hotels average ¥15,900, 12 city hotels ¥26,000, 30 minshuku ¥28,300 and 206 ryokan ¥35,200. Hot-spring ryokan center on about ¥35,000 for two, but minshuku in the same hot-spring towns start in the ¥28,000 range. In Takayama and Gero, where furusato nozei coupons can be used, if you choose a ryokan, it makes sense to put the coupon toward the ryokan’s price premium.
Municipal Coupons and Furusato Nozei Coupons: What We Found (as of October 17, 2026)
Municipalities have run their own lodging coupons in the past, such as the 2022 “Gifu City-only Gifu Tabi Coin.” Here is what we found when checking each official website on October 17, 2026.
| Municipality | Checked | Own coupon discounting room rates | What is available instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gifu City | Gifu Convention & Visitors Bureau | None listed (checked Oct 17) | Meitetsu “Gifu Jokamachi Kippu” (train, bus and ropeway tickets bundled with discount vouchers for tourist facilities; on sale until November 30, 2026) |
| Takayama | Hida Takayama official tourism site | None listed (checked Oct 17) | Eligible for furusato nozei lodging coupons |
| Gero | Gero Onsen Tourism Association | None listed (checked Oct 17) | Eligible for furusato nozei lodging coupons. Bus-tour subsidy is for groups |
| Gujo | Gujo City Tourism Federation | None listed (checked Oct 17) | Eligible for furusato nozei lodging coupons (on some furusato nozei sites) |
| Shirakawa, Ena, Nakatsugawa, Hashima, Kakamigahara, Ginan | Furusato nozei coupon eligibility lists | — | Eligible for furusato nozei lodging coupons (number of eligible properties varies by booking site and donation amount; some sites also include Hida, Seki, Higashishirakawa and others) |
Using Furusato Nozei Lodging Coupons to Effectively Lower Lodging Costs
With furusato nozei lodging coupons, 30% of the donation is issued as a coupon on a hotel booking site, usable for stays for roughly three years after donating. Among lodging-coupon gifts on furusato nozei sites, eligible municipalities include Takayama, Gero, Gifu City, Hida, Gujo, Shirakawa, Ena, Nakatsugawa and Kakamigahara (checked October 18, 2026); eligible properties differ by municipality and donation amount. Because everything above the ¥2,000 out-of-pocket portion is credited against next year’s taxes, for anyone with donation allowance left this year it is the only route that “effectively lowers lodging costs” in Gifu while the prefecture has no lodging discount. Gifu City and Gujo are also included as eligible municipalities on some furusato nozei sites, so check the eligible properties on the gift page of the city you will stay in before donating. How donation amounts translate into nights (how many nights a ¥100,000 donation buys) is estimated in Furusato Tax Lodging Rewards 2026: ¥50,000 Per Person-Night Cap.
The nationwide picture of other prefectures’ lodging discounts and coupons is summarized in Local Lodging Discounts & JTA’s ¥138.3B Budget: Regional Demand Strategy May-Jul 2026, and schemes usable in October–December are updated in Local Lodging Discounts Oct-Dec 2026: 8 Schemes. Gifu Prefecture’s weekday-only lodging discount, “Otoku na Heijitsu★Gifu Trip,” ran in 2023 and has ended. Detailed city-level rates within Gifu Prefecture can be found in Gifu Hotel Rates in Autumn: Takayama +28%, Gujo −16% by City.

Methodology and Sources
■ Data sources
Price data compiled by the HotelBank Editorial Team from MetroEngines Research (continuous tracking of OTA public prices for lodging facilities in Japan). Campaign and coupon information is from the official websites of the Gifu Prefecture Tourism Federation, Gifu Prefecture, NEXCO Central Japan and each municipality; furusato nozei eligible municipalities are from gift lists on hotel booking sites and furusato nozei sites (checked October 17–18, 2026).
■ Assumptions
Listed price = the per-room rate (tax included) each property publishes on OTAs for 2 guests in one room. Stays for October–December 2026 were aggregated from a snapshot as of October 2026; city and property-type values are means across the relevant properties, and YoY compares against listed prices under the same conditions at the same point a year earlier. N = number of listed properties in each city or property type.
■ Limitations
Listed prices reflect published plans and differ from actual transaction prices. Cities with few properties (Ogaki 8, Hashima 7) are sensitive to price moves at individual properties, and Takayama’s YoY figure includes a change in price-range mix from more listed properties, so it is shown for reference only. Campaign perks and furusato nozei eligible municipalities and properties change from time to time, so check each official page before use.
