On April 2, 2025, designated as “CO2 Reduction Day,” Greens Co., Ltd. will begin a trial implementation of a “Toothbrush Recycling” program at its Comfort Hotel Yokkaichi and Comfort Hotel Central International Airport. This initiative aims to reduce waste and promote the recycling of plastic resources by collecting and repurposing toothbrushes used by guests, thereby contributing to lower environmental impact.

The program is being carried out in collaboration with Konix Co., Ltd., which handles hotel cleaning services, and JTB Trading, Inc., which provides the recycling infrastructure. Guests are asked to place their used toothbrushes upright in a bathroom cup upon checkout, allowing cleaning staff to easily collect them. The collected toothbrushes will then be recycled into new ones through JTB Trading’s recycling network.

At the two hotels involved in the trial, approximately 180,000 toothbrushes are discarded annually. The program aims to collect about 90,000 of them—roughly 50%. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions from incineration, the program is expected to advance a circular economy, raise environmental awareness among staff, and encourage guests to actively contribute to sustainability.

Guest rooms at the participating hotels will display “Toothbrush Recycling Information Stickers” to visually encourage cooperation. Under its 2030 CSR declaration, which envisions becoming a hospitality company that is kind to both the environment and people, Greens has positioned this initiative as a contribution to SDGs Goals 12, 13, and 17. Based on the results of this trial, the company plans to consider expanding the program in the future.
