The “Mugen Choshoku” (Infinite Breakfast) at Umekoji Potel Kyoto (梅小路ポテル京都) costs ¥4,500 (tax incl.) for adults (elementary school age and up), and is served 7:00–11:00 on weekdays and 7:00–10:00 on weekends and holidays (confirmed on the official website, October 2026). For hotel guests, children below elementary school age eat free; for non-guests, children aged 3 to pre-elementary pay ¥2,250 (tax incl.) and under-3s are free. Within serving hours you can come back as many times as you like, take food out to eat in your room or in shared spaces, and non-guests can also dine when seats are available. This article sets out the price, hours and how the system works, plus a guide to room rates when staying with breakfast — for both people planning a stay and those checking whether they can use the breakfast alone.

Infinite Breakfast Prices and Serving Hours (Confirmed October 2026)
Pricing differs slightly between hotel guests and outside diners. Guests have two tiers — ¥4,500 for elementary school age and up, free below elementary school age — while outside diners have three tiers split at age 3. All prices include tax, and children below elementary school age cannot dine without an adult. Child rates for the stay itself and how co-sleeping children are counted vary by chain; see Free Co-Sleeping Age at Japan Hotels: Up to 18 at Vessel, by Chain.

On weekends and holidays, dishes start being cleared at 9:30, so if you plan to sleep in before breakfast on a weekend stay, get to the restaurant before 9:00 to choose from the full main menu. On weekdays there is room to spare well into the 10 o’clock hour.
How “Anytime, Anywhere, As Often As You Like” Works
The Infinite Breakfast began on April 15, 2026. Where the previous buffet worked as “one fixed seat, finish everything in a single visit,” the Infinite Breakfast has no limit on the number of visits within serving hours. You can eat, take a walk in Umekoji Park and come back, or soak in the “Potel-yu” (ぽて湯) public-bath-style spa and return for another round.
The other pillar is takeout: purpose-made takeaway boxes are provided, and the food can be eaten in designated areas of the hotel, such as guest rooms, the “Awai no Ma” shared lounge and the rooftop terrace. In an interview, the hotel explained that since switching to this system, morning crowding in the restaurant has dropped sharply and guests now have breakfast wherever they like. It is an easy setup for families with small children who cannot sit still for long, and for anyone who prefers a slow breakfast in their room.
Non-guests may dine only “when seats are available.” Seats tend to free up in the later part of weekday service, while weekends and holidays in the autumn-foliage season tend to fill with hotel guests, so if you plan to come for breakfast only, check availability with the hotel in advance.
Menu Highlights (From the Official Website)
The April 2026 refresh added steamed dishes centered on seiro (bamboo steamer) cooking — steamed pork, steamed chicken, chawanmushi savory egg custard, dim sum and more. Also new are a four-variety “Curry Lab” and a corner where you grill your own skewered dango dumplings and eat them with kinako, sweet red bean, mitarashi or miso sauce.
Continuing staples include Milky Queen rice from Kyotango (bought year-round from a farm in Kyotango), free-range “Miyama eggs” from Miyama (the official recommendation is tamago kake gohan — egg over rice — with a dedicated Matsuno soy sauce), seasonal Kyoto pickles from Gion Kawakatsu, founded in 1930, steamed vegetables from Sakanotochu grown without synthetic chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers, bread from Kyoto bakery Shinshindo, a charcoal grill, and small pancakes that come fresh-baked from a machine. Built around Kyoto ingredients, the spread works whether you prefer a mainly Japanese or mainly bread-based breakfast.
How Much to Stay With Breakfast? November and December Room Rate Guide
Room rates are based on OTA listed prices (per room, 2 guests, tax incl., as of October 25, 2026; HotelBank Editorial Team research). November 2026 is autumn-foliage season and prices are high across Kyoto city: Umekoji Potel Kyoto’s lowest listed rate for one night was ¥23,800 (November 3 and 4), and the median of daily lowest rates was ¥38,300 (N=30 days, 12,448 plans). The day-of-week gap is large: Monday–Thursday (excluding holidays, 15 days) starts from ¥23,800, while Saturday (4 days) starts from ¥53,800 even at its cheapest — within the same month, Saturdays run about 1.8x weekdays (comparing medians of daily lowest rates). For how far Kyoto hotel prices rise in November and how much they fall back in December, Japan Autumn Leaves 2026: Peak Dates by Region, Kyoto Hotels 1.72x sets out rates by month.

Rates fall in December: weekdays December 7–10 had listings from ¥19,700, and December 14–17 and 20–22 from ¥17,600 (N=31 days, 12,145 plans). Year-end rates climb back to around ¥40,000 for December 26–30, and New Year’s Eve (the 31st) starts at ¥58,994. If you can plan your dates around breakfast, the cheapest ways to fit the same Infinite Breakfast into a stay are “a Monday–Thursday night or Culture Day (November 3) night in November” or “a weekday night in mid-December.” A month-by-weekday comparison of family-friendly hotels across Kyoto city, Kyoto Family Hotels: Cheapest Months and Days, City Hotel Rates [2026] (kazokustay, in Japanese), also shows the same citywide pattern: January–February and July–August are cheap, and Saturday nights are expensive.
The standard breakfast price is ¥4,500 per adult, so ¥9,000 for two. Compare the listed rates with and without breakfast for the same date and room type: if the difference is under ¥9,000, the breakfast-included plan is the better deal (the discounted breakfast rate for guests varies by date). For how much breakfast-included plans add across Kyoto hotels as a whole, Kyoto Breakfast Premium: Business +18.5%, City +18.4%; Autumn 12–13% analyzes the premium by hotel type.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can non-guests eat breakfast at Umekoji Potel Kyoto?
Yes. The official website states that “guests other than hotel guests may also dine when seats are available.” Non-guest prices are ¥4,500 (tax incl.) for elementary school age and up, ¥2,250 (tax incl.) for ages 3 to pre-elementary, and free for under-3s (confirmed October 2026). Seats tend to fill with hotel guests on weekend and holiday mornings, so the surest approach is to ask the hotel directly about availability.
Q. How much do children pay?
For hotel guests, children below elementary school age are free, and elementary school age and up pay the adult price of ¥4,500 (tax incl.). For non-guests (breakfast only), ages 3 to pre-elementary pay ¥2,250 (tax incl.) and under-3s are free. Children below elementary school age cannot dine on their own and must come with a parent or guardian.
Q. Can you really eat as many times as you like?
Within serving hours, there is no limit on the number of visits. Weekdays 7:00–11:00 (dishes cleared progressively from 10:30), weekends and holidays 7:00–10:00 (dishes cleared progressively from 9:30). The system is designed around leaving your seat for a walk or a bath and then coming back; the hotel explains that it removes “the feeling that you have to finish eating within this time.”
Q. Can you take breakfast back to your room?
Yes. Takeout boxes are provided, and you can eat in your guest room or in designated areas of the hotel such as the “Awai no Ma” shared lounge and the rooftop terrace. Eating is limited to inside the hotel; taking food off the premises is not permitted.
Q. What is the price difference between breakfast-included and room-only plans?
The standard breakfast price is ¥4,500 (tax incl.) per adult, so ¥9,000 for two is the upper-bound benchmark. The official site states that hotel guests receive a discounted breakfast rate that varies by date. When booking, compare the listed rates with and without breakfast for the same room type and date: if the difference for two is under ¥9,000, the breakfast-included plan is the better deal.
Methodology and Sources
■ Data Sources
Breakfast prices, hours and menu are based on the Umekoji Potel Kyoto official website (checked October 25, 2026) and a HotelBank interview article from May 2026. Room rates are OTA listed prices (per room, 2 guests, tax incl.) aggregated by date for November 2026 (N=30 days, 12,448 plans) and December 2026 (N=31 days, 12,145 plans), retrieved as of October 25, 2026. Review figures are aggregates of public reviews (N=2,309 reviews, as of October 25, 2026); no individual reviews are quoted.
■ Calculation Assumptions
Because averages are pushed up by high-priced plans left on sold-out days, each day’s lowest and median rates are used. For the breakfast-included vs. room-only comparison, the standard breakfast price (¥4,500 per adult, tax incl.) × number of guests is used as the upper-bound benchmark for the difference.
■ Limitations
Prices and hours may change, so please check the official website for the latest information before visiting. Listed rates are values at the time of retrieval, change daily with sales conditions, and may not match the prices actually bookable or transacted. Review ratings aggregate reviewers’ subjective views and fluctuate over time.
