For bookings made directly with a hotel, the Kyushu Fukko-Wari (officially the “Kyushu Fukko Ouenwari” recovery travel discount) covers stays through December 15 in Fukuoka Prefecture, through December 25 in the five prefectures of Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita and Miyazaki, and through February 28, 2027 in Kagoshima Prefecture (excluding December 26 to January 3). In every prefecture, bookings close as soon as the budget runs out, even within the eligible period. Our editorial team asked HotelME, a hotel search app available inside ChatGPT, questions such as “Until when can I use the Kyushu Fukko-Wari? Find hotels with eligible plans on weekdays in December,” and checked the eligible plans on the hotels’ official booking sites. HotelME is a service provided by MetroEngines Inc., the company that operates HotelBank. This article reflects official information and search results as of November 1, 2026, and does not guarantee availability or that the discount will be applied.
- — Direct bookings cover stays through December 15 in Fukuoka; December 25 in Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita and Miyazaki; and February 28, 2027 in Kagoshima: in Kagoshima, stays from December 26 to January 3 are excluded (each prefecture’s official page, checked November 1, 2026).
- — Counting from November 1, 45 nights remain in Fukuoka, 55 nights in the five prefectures and 111 nights in Kagoshima: even within the period, bookings close first at the hotels and areas whose budget runs out (Table 2).
- — How bookings close differs by prefecture: Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, Saga and Kagoshima close hotel by hotel, Fukuoka area by area. In Nagasaki, discount coupons for direct bookings have reached their cap, and any reopening will come without notice.
- — 277 of 949 hotels in Kumamoto and 271 of 795 in Oita are marked “sold out”: in Kagoshima 115 of 546 hotels, in Miyazaki 53 of 307 and in Saga 99 of 199 are marked as closed or sold out (each prefecture’s hotel list, versions dated October 29–31).
- — HotelME found eligible plans still on sale at 81 hotels in six prefectures: for check-ins from November 2 to December 25, 2 adults, 1 room, 1 night; 80 of them also had eligible weekday dates (HotelME search, as of November 1, 2026, N=81 hotels).
When Does the Kyushu Fukko-Wari End? Stay Periods and Booking Status by Prefecture
At the national level, the Japan Tourism Agency sets the discount rate at 50% of the travel or accommodation price (60% in Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefectures) and the cap for accommodation-only bookings at ¥20,000 per person per trip, and states that the program “ends in each prefecture once its budget runs out” (Japan Tourism Agency, updated October 16, 2026). How much you actually save under each discount rate is explained in detail in our article on how much cheaper the Kyushu Fukko Ouenwari makes a stay. Because the actual periods and booking status differ by prefecture, we have tabulated what each prefecture’s official page says about direct bookings with hotels.
| Prefecture | Eligible stays (direct booking) | Excluded period | Discount rate / cap | Booking status (date checked) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fukuoka | Stays from October 1 to December 15 (check-out December 16) | No excluded dates | 50%; ¥20,000 per person per trip | Budgets are split by area (Fukuoka City / Kitakyushu City / other). The latest notice is the October 8 announcement of “additional bookings from noon on October 9.” The hotel list (867 hotels) shows no “sold out” labels, but 2 hotels display “bookings under the Fukko Ouenwari have closed” and 1 hotel displays “fully booked during the eligible period” (checked November 1) |
| Saga | Check-in from October 1 to check-out on December 26 | — | 50% (“per person per booking”); officially stated as “accommodation-only and accommodation-with-transport products: ¥20,000 per night” | “Bookings closed” shown per hotel: 99 of 199 hotels (October 30 version) |
| Nagasaki | Stays from October 1 to December 25 (check-out December 26) | — | 50%; ¥20,000 per person per trip | For both Phase 1 and Phase 2, direct-booking coupons show: “The budget has reached its limit, so discount coupons cannot currently be obtained.” “Issuance may resume without notice” (checked November 1) |
| Kumamoto | Stays from October 1 to December 25 | — | 60%; ¥20,000 per person per accommodation contract | Budget allocated per hotel. 277 of 949 hotels marked “sold out” (list updated October 31, 16:02) |
| Oita | Stays from October 16 to December 25 (direct booking) | — | 50%; ¥20,000 per person per travel contract | 271 of 795 hotels marked “sold out” (October 30 version). A hotel’s allocation may be used up even without the label |
| Miyazaki | Stays from October 1 to December 25 | — | 50%; ¥20,000 per person per trip | Bookings close hotel by hotel as budgets run out. 53 of 307 hotels marked “direct booking sold out” (as of October 30, 15:00) |
| Kagoshima | Stays from October 14 to February 28, 2027 (check-out March 1) | Stays from December 26 to January 3 | 60%; ¥20,000 per person per trip | “Sold out” shown per hotel: 115 of 546 hotels (October 29, 10:00 version) |
Source: each prefecture’s official campaign site, hotel list and FAQ, and the Kyushu Tourism Organization (checked November 1, 2026). Cap units follow each prefecture’s official wording. Periods for bookings via online travel sites and travel agencies differ by prefecture (for example, Kagoshima covers stays through January 31, 2027, and in Oita online travel sites started on October 1 and travel agencies on October 9).
Whether “ends once the budget runs out” applies to the whole prefecture or to individual hotels depends on the prefecture. The Kyushu Tourism Organization states that sales “end once the amount handled under the national grant… reaches its cap” (Kyushu Tourism Organization), and the prefectural documents define the unit as follows.
- Per hotel: Kumamoto (budget allocated per hotel), Oita (allocation per hotel) and Miyazaki (“bookings close in turn at accommodation facilities or travel agencies whose budget has run out”). Saga and Kagoshima also show “closed” or “sold out” hotel by hotel. Even if one hotel is sold out, another hotel in the same prefecture may still accept the discount.
- Per area: Fukuoka’s budget is split between Fukuoka City, Kitakyushu City and the rest of the prefecture, and areas that reach their cap close early.
- Prefecture-wide direct-booking coupons: in Nagasaki, the discount coupons for direct bookings have themselves reached their cap, and the prefecture says issuance may resume without notice, for example after cancellations.
Some prefectures’ top pages still contain the words “The campaign has ended,” but in Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Oita and Kagoshima this is a hidden page element, not an announcement that the campaign is over. Check the booking status in each prefecture’s notices and hotel list.
How Many Nights Are Left, Counting from November 1?
The number of nights remaining until the last eligible stay date for direct bookings, counting a November 1, 2026 check-in as the first night. This is the number of usable nights in the period, not the remaining budget.
| Prefecture | Last eligible night | Nights remaining | Of which Saturday nights | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fukuoka | December 15 (Tue) | 45 nights | 6 nights | Budget by area (Fukuoka City / Kitakyushu City / other) |
| Saga, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki | December 25 (Fri) | 55 nights | 7 nights | Bookings close or sell out hotel by hotel |
| Nagasaki | December 25 (Fri) | 55 nights | 7 nights | Direct-booking coupons at cap (checked November 1); reopening without notice |
| Kagoshima | February 28, 2027 (Sun) | 111 nights | 15 nights | Excludes the 9 nights from December 26 to January 3 |
Calculated by the editorial team from the direct-booking stay periods in Table 1 (as of November 1, 2026). Saga’s period is stated as “through check-out on December 26,” so December 25 was counted as the last eligible night. For trips that straddle the period boundary, see “What to Check Before Booking.”
How to Search with HotelME in ChatGPT
HotelME is an app used inside ChatGPT: select HotelME in a conversation and simply ask in plain language. An example question is “Until when can I use the Kyushu Fukko-Wari? Find hotels with eligible plans on weekdays in December.” Tell it the prefecture, your candidate dates and the number of adults, and it will search (1–5 adults, 1 room, 1 night, with candidate dates spanning up to 31 days). It cannot check children’s rates, availability for an entire family, or the total for consecutive nights.
HotelME returns information on eligible plans confirmed on official booking sites: the dates (check-in dates) on which an eligible plan was available, an indicative rate at the time of checking, and a link to the hotel’s official booking page. Results reflect the time of the search, and eligible plans can sell out day by day, so before booking, re-select the stay date, number of guests and plan on the official booking page to confirm. Details on how to use it are in our HotelME how-to article.

What to Check Before Booking
- Booking steps: In Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Oita and Kagoshima, you book an eligible plan through the hotel’s official website or by phone, and the discount is applied by the hotel. In Saga you also book directly with the hotel by phone or on its official website, but we could not confirm details of how the discount is received on the official pages. At check-in, Fukuoka and Kagoshima require identity verification of the lead guest and completion of a subsidy application form; Saga and Kumamoto require a signature on a certificate of use; Oita requires presentation of ID (driver’s license, My Number card, etc.) and a signature. In Nagasaki and Miyazaki, after booking the hotel you obtain a discount coupon yourself via “STAYNAVI” and present it at the hotel. Miyazaki Prefecture states that “the discount will not be applied unless” coupon issuance is completed.
- The cap is per trip: Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima state that even for consecutive nights, the cap remains the amount per person per trip (per accommodation contract in Kumamoto). Splitting bookings and repeatedly checking in and out may lead to a demand for repayment in a later review. For conditions under which transport-inclusive or circuit products raise the cap, see also our article on qualifying for the ¥30,000 and ¥35,000 caps.
- Trips straddling the period: Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Kagoshima state that a trip including any night outside the eligible period is ineligible in its entirety. Watch your dates if you plan consecutive nights over the year-end in a prefecture whose period ends December 25 (December 15 in Fukuoka), or a Kagoshima stay that includes December 26 or later.
- Business trips are excluded: business travel is ineligible in every prefecture (some prefectures also exclude publicly funded trips and receipts made out to a company). Many prefectures count children toward the number of guests.
- Cancelling and rebooking: cancelling forfeits the discount, and in many prefectures cancellation fees are based on the pre-discount price. Existing bookings made before the start date are not eligible. How each prefecture treats existing bookings is also covered in our article on existing bookings and cancel-and-rebook cases. Kumamoto and Miyazaki state that the campaign does not cover cancellation fees incurred when rebooking to get the discount, so the fees are borne by the traveler (Miyazaki Prefecture says it is “unclear whether the room can be secured again”). Kagoshima Prefecture limits rebooking to products newly booked on or after October 14. When changing a booking in Nagasaki, the order is to issue a new coupon first and then cancel the old one.
- Latest status: the booking status in the tables is as of the date checked. Right before booking, check the notices and hotel list on the prefecture’s official page and the eligible plan on the hotel’s official booking page.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the Kyushu Fukko-Wari end?
For bookings made directly with a hotel: stays through December 15, 2026 in Fukuoka Prefecture; through December 25 in the five prefectures of Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita and Miyazaki; and through February 28, 2027 in Kagoshima Prefecture (stays from December 26 to January 3 are excluded). In every prefecture, bookings close as soon as the budget runs out, even within the period (each prefecture’s official page, checked November 1, 2026).
Is the period the same when booking via online travel sites or travel agencies?
It differs by prefecture. For example, in Kagoshima bookings via online travel sites and travel agencies cover stays through January 31, 2027, and in Oita online travel sites started on October 1 and travel agencies on October 9, a different start date from direct bookings (from October 16). Check the prefecture’s official page for each booking channel.
When the budget runs out, does the whole prefecture close?
The unit differs by prefecture. Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, Saga and Kagoshima show closed or sold-out status hotel by hotel, while Fukuoka splits its budget by area: Fukuoka City, Kitakyushu City and the rest of the prefecture. In Nagasaki, the discount coupons for direct bookings have themselves reached their cap, and the prefecture says issuance may resume without notice, for example after cancellations (checked November 1, 2026).
Are there still hotels where I can use it?
Searching HotelME for check-ins from November 2 to December 25, 2 adults, 1 room, 1 night, we found 81 hotels in six prefectures where eligible plans were confirmed on sale on the official booking site, 80 of which also had eligible weekday dates (HotelME search, as of November 1, 2026). No eligible plans were found at hotels in Nagasaki Prefecture. This is not a real-time availability check, so confirm on the official booking page before booking.
What is the discount cap?
The national cap for accommodation-only bookings is ¥20,000 per person per trip (Japan Tourism Agency). The discount rate is 50%, or 60% in Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefectures. How the cap unit is worded differs by prefecture.
Can I use it for a trip that spans the year-end?
Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Kagoshima state that a trip including any night outside the eligible period is ineligible in its entirety. Watch your dates if you plan consecutive nights over the year-end in a prefecture whose period ends December 25 (December 15 in Fukuoka), or a Kagoshima stay that includes December 26 or later.
Can I rebook to get the discount?
Existing bookings made before the start date are not eligible. Kumamoto and Miyazaki state that the campaign does not cover cancellation fees incurred when rebooking to get the discount, so the fees are borne by the traveler. Kagoshima Prefecture limits rebooking to products newly booked on or after October 14.
Methodology and Sources
■ Data Sources
Stay periods, discount rates, caps and booking status by prefecture: the Japan Tourism Agency, the Kyushu Tourism Organization, and each prefecture’s official campaign site, hotel list, FAQ and documents for businesses (checked November 1, 2026; hotel lists are the versions noted in Table 1). Number of hotels with eligible plans remaining: HotelME search results as of November 1, 2026 (check-ins from November 2 to December 25, 2 adults, 1 room, 1 night; information on eligible plans confirmed on hotels’ official booking sites; N=81 hotels).
■ How We Counted
The nights remaining in Table 2 count a November 1, 2026 check-in as the first night, up to each prefecture’s last eligible night for direct bookings (for Kagoshima, excluding the 9 nights from December 26 to January 3).
■ Limitations
Booking status is as of the date checked, and per-hotel and per-area budgets shrink daily. A hotel’s allocation may be used up even if the hotel list does not show “sold out.” HotelME counts are the number of hotels with eligible plans showing on the day of the search and do not guarantee availability or that the discount will be applied. HotelME is a service of MetroEngines Inc., the company that operates HotelBank.
