As far as we could confirm, the number of places to stay on Shodoshima that newly opened in 2025–2026, or newly appeared on OTAs, is 13. Five date from 2026 and eight from 2025. The largest by room count is edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima (45 rooms), which held its grand opening on March 5, 2026. The other 12 are mostly whole-house rentals and small inns of 12 rooms or fewer.

If size and facilities matter most, choose edit x seven. It has the thermal spa “SPA edén SETOUCHI” and an infinity pool, and its average review scores on the three main booking platforms were 4.31 (209 reviews), 4.40 (80) and 4.68 (59) (November 2024–November 2026, HotelBank Editorial Team research). SHIMASTREAM house is a private villa limited to one group per day, sleeping up to 8 guests, with a pool and an ocean-view terrace. Private Villa 渚音 sits right in front of a beach and sleeps up to 14. Angelroad Hotel stands on high ground overlooking Angel Road. Gajumaru HOUSE is a 2-minute walk from the high-speed boat terminal at Tonosho Port, so you can walk straight there from the boat.

Oyashiki Stay Kou is a one-group-per-day stay in a restored mansion of a family that prospered in soy-sauce making, with a semi-open-air bath, a sauna and a storehouse bar. Kakomi-yado Kowane is an old folk house with a sauna and a fireplace, a 5-minute walk from Angel Road. Every room at Moriguchiya Art Square has an ocean view, and it is a 6-minute walk from Shodoshima Olive Park. SUNSETSHODOSHIMA and Seto no Hama beach&resort are both distinctive stays built from shipping containers.

Island rate levels and where the new properties sit

The November 2026 monthly average of listed prices (one room for two guests, tax included) is ¥35,300 in Tonosho Town (15 properties, +21.9% YoY) and ¥40,100 in Shodoshima Town (5 properties, +12.4% YoY). The number of properties covered has grown from 10 and 4 a year earlier, so the increase also reflects a change in the property mix.

By day of week and town: the Saturday premium and island rate levels

Among the 8 properties with availability on both weekdays and Saturdays, the Saturday median was 8.8–40.0% above the weekday median. The premium is largest at SHIMASTREAM house (+40.0%) and edit x seven (+33.3%), and smallest at Angelroad Hotel (+8.8%). If your dates are flexible, shifting to a weekday tends to pay off most at whole-house rentals and larger properties.

Getting there from the ferry ports, and choosing with or without a car

Which port you arrive at changes how easy it is to reach your accommodation. Scheduled ferries use four ports — Tonosho, Ikeda, Sakate and Fukuda — and scheduled service at Kusakabe Port has been suspended since the end of March 2021. If you are staying around Kusakabe, plan to drive from Ikeda or Sakate Port.
