Hotels bearing the name “Washington Hotel” are run by two different companies: (1) WHG Hotels, operated by Fujita Kanko (Washington Hotel / Hotel Gracery / Hotel Tavinos), and (2) Washington Hotel Corporation (ワシントンホテル株式会社), headquartered in Nagoya (Washington Hotel Plaza / Washington R&B Hotel). If a property name includes “Plaza” or “R&B,” it belongs to (2); if it says “Gracery” or “Tavinos,” it belongs to (1); and a property named simply “[City] Washington Hotel” is almost always (1). Remember this and you won’t mix up booking sites and loyalty programs. The two companies jointly hold the “Washington Hotel” trademark and signed a business alliance on February 12, 2026. They announced that their loyalty programs would become mutually usable from April 1 of that year, making it easier for members of either program to book the other company’s hotels through official channels (Fujita Kanko news release, February 12, 2026).

This article covers how to tell the two companies apart, what each is best used for, listed prices at representative properties, and the current answer when you search by a property name and can’t find it — such as “Shizuoka,” “Kansai Airport,” “Izumi-Chuo,” or “Aomori.” All prices are OTA listed prices (2 adults in 1 room, tax included, as of October 20, 2026), i.e., the amount guests actually pay.

Telling the Two Apart — Look at the End of the Property Name

The clue is in the property name. As the diagram below shows, the brand name maps one-to-one to the operator and the official booking channel.

Property counts are as published by each company. The WHG Hotels official property list shows 20 “Washington Hotel” properties (counting Shinjuku’s main and annex buildings separately), 8 domestic and 2 overseas “Hotel Gracery” properties, and 3 “Hotel Tavinos” properties (accessed October 20, 2026). Washington Hotel Corporation operates 43 properties in total across “Washington Hotel Plaza” and “Washington R&B Hotel” (Fujita Kanko news release, February 12, 2026; consistent with the count on the company’s official list). The purpose of this article is not to compare the two by number of hotels, but to help you get from a property name to the right booking channel.

WHG Hotels (Fujita Kanko): Strengths and Best Uses

WHG Hotels combines large properties in tourist hubs — Shinjuku, Asakusa, Ginza, Sapporo, Kyoto Sanjo, Osaka Namba and Naha — with station-front properties in regional cities such as Sendai, Yamagata, Koriyama, Hiroshima and Sasebo. Hotel Gracery Shinjuku has 970 rooms and is an easy base for leisure stays in Tokyo. The categories guests rate most highly in reviews are, in order, location, breakfast, staff and food; breakfast and food ranking near the top is a hallmark of this group (HotelBank Editorial Team research, past 24 months, updated October 1, 2026).

At Hotel Gracery Asakusa, the group’s highest-rated property, guests write comments such as “a perfect location for street food and sightseeing,” “elevator access from Exit A2b,” “the service and welcome were wonderful,” and “we could see Tokyo Skytree from our room” (2,129 guest reviews compiled by the HotelBank Editorial Team, October 2024–September 2026). It suits sightseeing and family trips that want near-direct station access, views and breakfast in one package, as well as business trips to regional cities.

As a recent development, WHG Hotels is also expanding through franchising: the 50-room “Osaka Izumi-Chuo Ekimae Washington Hotel (tentative name)” is scheduled to open in autumn 2026 in front of Izumi-Chuo Station on the Nankai Semboku Line. Its second floor connects to a pedestrian deck linked directly to the station, and access to Kansai International Airport is good (see our earlier report). Washington Hotel Corporation (Nagoya): Strengths and Best Uses

Washington Hotel Corporation is headquartered in Nagoya and operates 18 “Washington Hotel Plaza” and 25 “Washington R&B Hotel” properties from Hokkaido to Kagoshima (official property list, accessed October 20, 2026). Nagoya alone has the Sakae Plaza and four R&B hotels (Nagoya Ekimae, Nagoya Shinkansen-guchi, Nagoya Nishiki and Nagoya Sakae Higashi), giving it a strong presence as a base in the Tokai region. The categories guests rate most highly are, in order, location, staff and cleanliness, reflecting support for its station-front locations, front-desk service and well-kept rooms (HotelBank Editorial Team research, past 24 months, updated October 1, 2026).

At Washington R&B Hotel Ueno Hirokoji, the group’s highest-rated property, comments such as “outstanding value, close to the station,” “it has felt clean since the renovation,” “friendly, courteous service with a smile,” and “close to the station, convenience stores and bars” stand out (1,682 guest reviews compiled by the HotelBank Editorial Team, October 2024–September 2026). R&B Hotels promote a breakfast centered on bread baked in-house every morning, and officially state that co-sleeping children of elementary-school age or younger stay free (breakfast for co-sleeping children is requested at the front desk). They suit short business stays near the station, solo travel and overnight stays before a connection.

The Plaza line is also being renovated. Kumamoto Washington Hotel Plaza reopened after renovation on August 1, 2024, with new guest rooms. Guest reviews posted for WHG Hotels and Washington R&B Hotel properties total about 148,000 (HotelBank Editorial Team research, past 24 months, updated October 1, 2026).

Listed Prices at Representative Properties — Actual Weekday and Saturday Rates

The table shows the lowest listed prices at four representative properties of the two companies for Wednesday, December 2 and Saturday, December 5, 2026 (2 adults in 1 room, tax included, bookable plans only, measured October 20, 2026). It is not meant to judge prices as high or low, but to give you a sense of the actual amount before booking.

At all four properties the Saturday listed price exceeds the weekday price, and in Sendai and Kumamoto there are weeks when Saturday is nearly double the weekday rate. Even within the same group, actual rates move substantially by city and day of week, so if your dates are flexible, building your trip around weekday nights makes it easier to keep costs down. In Kyoto, November weekends fall in the band where listed prices peak for this autumn–winter season, settling down in early December.

Can’t Find a Property by Name? — The Nearest Current Locations

“Shizuoka Washington Hotel” / “Shizuoka-Kita Washington Hotel Plaza”: Shizuoka-Kita Washington Hotel Plaza closed on March 11, 2022. If you are traveling from Shizuoka, the nearest bookable properties in the group are the five in Nagoya (Nagoya Sakae Washington Hotel Plaza and Washington R&B Hotel Nagoya Ekimae, Nagoya Shinkansen-guchi, Nagoya Nishiki and Nagoya Sakae Higashi) and the two in Yokohama (Washington R&B Hotel Shin-Yokohama Ekimae and Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel). In Hamamatsu, Hotel Sorisso Hamamatsu and Hamamatsu Hotel are listed on Washington Hotel Corporation’s official booking site as partner hotels (each company’s official website, accessed October 20, 2026).

“Kansai Airport Washington Hotel closed”: As of October 20, 2026, Kansai Airport Washington Hotel is open. Its official website carries no closure notice and is accepting reservations. It is a 3-minute walk from Rinku Town Station, has 504 rooms, and runs a free shuttle bus to Kansai International Airport; a notice states that the shuttle schedule changes from November 1, 2026 (WHG Hotels official website). “Washington Hotel Izumi-Chuo”: This refers to the Osaka Izumi-Chuo Ekimae Washington Hotel (tentative name, 50 rooms) mentioned above. It will be the 14th WHG Hotels franchise property, operated by Flat Field Operations, the same company that runs Kansai Airport Washington Hotel and Kanku Izumiotsu Washington Hotel. It is scheduled to open in autumn 2026; the official opening date and start of reservations will be confirmed in official announcements.

“Aomori Washington Hotel” / “Washington Hotel Aomori”: Hachinohe Washington Hotel, which formerly operated in Hachinohe City, relaunched under a different brand as “Hotel Global View Hachinohe Annex” in October 2019 (according to travel information sites). The nearest properties in the group to Aomori Prefecture are Washington R&B Hotel Morioka Ekimae and the three in Sendai (Sendai Washington Hotel and Washington R&B Hotel Sendai Hirosedori Ekimae and Sendai Higashiguchi). In the Tohoku region, WHG Hotels also has properties in Yamagata (Nanokamachi and Station West Exit), Aizuwakamatsu, Koriyama and Iwaki.

The loyalty program for WHG Hotels is “THE FUJITA MEMBERS,” shared across the Fujita Kanko Group, with no enrollment or annual fee. Points can be used at 1 point = ¥1, and the program offers member-only rates and four status tiers that rise with usage. It covers about 90 locations in Japan and overseas and can be used at Fujita Kanko Group properties including Washington Hotel, Hotel Gracery and Hotel Tavinos (THE FUJITA MEMBERS official website, accessed October 20, 2026).

Washington Hotel Corporation‘s official booking site, “Washington Net,” gives members 7% back in points and offers a best-rate guarantee (BESTRATE) for bookings on the official site. The two companies also announced that their loyalty programs would become mutually usable from April 1, 2026.
