When is Hotel New Hankyu Kyoto closing, and why?
Here is what has been made public. The announcement came on December 2, 2025, and the hotel has been operating since July 1981.

A fixed-term building lease is a lease on a building agreed for a set period. The announcement goes no further than naming the expiry of this lease as the reason for closing. It says nothing about the use of the building or site afterward, or about who owns it. As of October 31, 2026, we could not confirm any post-closing plan from official announcements. The announcement does not give a room count either; Kyoto City’s accessibility information lists 325 rooms.

Because you cannot leave luggage after check-out, if you plan to keep sightseeing in Kyoto on the 18th, it helps to think ahead about station coin lockers or a parcel delivery service.
If you stay one last time, what is on offer in the Finale program?
From October 1, 2026 to January 17, 2027, the hotel is running its official “Finale” program (in Japanese). Three items mainly concern overnight guests.
- Plan with Finale goods: for two or more guests, available room-only or with breakfast. Guests who request it will be mailed a room key holder that was used at the hotel after it closes. Booking may be paused depending on sales.
- Dinner and breakfast plan at “Boulevard”: for two or more guests. You stay in a “Japanesque Twin” with a raised tatami area, and dinner is a half-buffet.
- Senjafuda-style sticker: handed to guests staying from December 31, 2026 to January 17, 2027, while supplies last.
The hotel also lists a history board display and message board in the first-floor lobby, Finale goods at the first-floor Kyoto souvenir shop, and a 45% discount on selected drinks at the bar on the first basement floor (リード), among other items. The program page does not show prices for the stay plans, so please check rates on the booking screen.

How to choose: three pointers
- You want to keep the convenience of the Karasuma Exit: Kyoto Tower Hotel and its Annex are on the north side of the station, the same side as New Hankyu.
- You want a shorter Shinkansen transfer: the Hachijo-side hotels suit you best: Hotel Keihan Kyoto Grande, Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo, Hotel Elcient Kyoto Hachijoguchi and Washington R&B Hotel Kyoto Station Hachijoguchi.
- You want to keep costs down: even the six hotels listed here have December medians of roughly ¥14,000–¥20,000. Before choosing a hotel, first consider whether you can shift the month of your stay; that is where the difference comes from.

Methodology and sources
■ Data sources
Public listed prices on major Japanese OTAs compiled by the HotelBank Editorial Team (Hotel New Hankyu Kyoto and hotels operating within 1km of it). The closing date, reason, January 18 arrangements and Finale program come from official announcements by Hankyu Hanshin Hotels and Hotel New Hankyu Kyoto; room counts come from Kyoto City’s accessibility information and each hotel’s official website.
■ Assumptions
Prices are the one-night price for the whole room when two people share it (tax included). We took the lowest listed price for each stay date, regardless of meal terms or plan, using the value at the last point it was listed with availability. Weekly and monthly medians (N is the number of stay dates) are rounded to the nearest ¥100. Data is as of October 31, 2026.
■ Limitations
Listed prices may differ from the amount actually paid, and Kyoto City’s lodging tax may be charged separately. On dates when we could not confirm a listing with availability for two people (November 21 and 22, December 5, December 31 and January 1, 2027), the table’s prices may not be bookable. The alternative hotels are a guide selected by price range and proximity to Kyoto Station, not a ranking.
