The hotels you knew as “Daiwa Resort” now operate under the names “Grand Mercure” or “Mercure.” All 23 former Daiwa Royal Hotels were rebranded at once in April 2024, and both booking sites and official websites now list them only under their current names. That is why searching by the old name turns up nothing. This article first gives a lookup table linking each old “… Royal Hotel” name, the label used from 2018, and the current name, then summarizes, for 22 hotels, the median of the cheapest bookable plan for November 2026 stays (per room, 2 guests, tax included).
- — Since April 2024, the former Daiwa Royal Hotels have operated as 12 “Grand Mercure” and 10 “Mercure” properties (Mercure Noto, which was part of the rebrand, has had its opening plan terminated). Searching by the old names will not bring them up on booking screens
- — Daiwa House Industry announced the sale of all shares in Daiwa Resort on December 8, 2022, and completed it on July 19, 2023. Daiwa Roynet Hotels were not part of the deal and still operate under the same name
- — The median of the cheapest bookable plan for November 2026 is ¥25,400 (22 hotels, per room for 2 guests, tax included, N=619 property-nights). The gap between Grand Mercure and Mercure is small
- — Six hotels have medians under ¥15,000: Kushimoto, Tonami, Urabandai, Miyagi Zao, Lake Hamana and Sapporo Odori Park (6 properties). Mercure Noto has no rates on sale because its opening plan has been terminated
First, Check: “Daiwa Resort” and “Daiwa Roynet” Are Different Companies
Q. Did Daiwa Roynet Hotels change their name too?
A. No. Daiwa Roynet Hotel is a limited-service chain operated by Daiwa Roynet Hotels, part of the Daiwa House Realty Management group, and it remains within the Daiwa House Group under the same name. The 2023 share transfer covered only the resort hotels run by Daiwa Resort Co., Ltd.; the business hotels near stations were not included. We cover Daiwa Roynet rates and member benefits in Daiwa Roynet Hotel Rates: ¥17,700 Weeknights, 4.34 Reviews & Brands.
Q. Does the company “Daiwa Resort” still exist?
A. The company still exists, but it has been renamed Destination Resorts & Hotels Management Co., Ltd. (formerly Daiwa Resort). Because the hotels are operated under Accor brands, guests will rarely see the “Daiwa Resort” name anywhere.
Why the Names Changed: From the 2022 Sale Announcement to the 2024 Simultaneous Relaunch
Here is how it happened. On December 8, 2022, Daiwa House Industry announced that it would transfer all shares of its subsidiary Daiwa Resort Co., Ltd. to Ebisu Resort GK. The transfer, originally scheduled for April 3, 2023, was postponed and completed on July 19 of that year (Daiwa House Industry announcement, December 8, 2022; completion announcement, July 19, 2023; HotelBank also reported at the time that the Daiwa House subsidiary was selling 24 hotels for ¥55.6 billion). The asset manager is Japan Hotel REIT Advisors. Accor then took over operations from July 2023 and rebranded the 23 hotels nationwide in April 2024 as 12 “Grand Mercure” and 11 “Mercure” properties (22 hotels, all except Noto, opened that month; HotelBank had reported earlier that Accor planned to open 23 hotels across Japan in spring 2024, including the first Grand Mercure in the country). Current property names can be checked on Accor’s official website (all.accor.com).
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| April 1, 2018 | Rebranded as “DAIWA ROYAL HOTEL,” introducing four category names: Active Resorts / Hotel & Resorts / THE / Royal Hotel |
| December 8, 2022 | Daiwa House Industry announces the transfer of all shares of its subsidiary Daiwa Resort Co., Ltd. to Ebisu Resort GK (asset manager: Japan Hotel REIT Advisors) |
| July 19, 2023 | Share transfer executed (postponed from the original April 3 date). The hotels leave the Daiwa House Group |
| July 2023 | Accor takes over operations |
| April 2024 | The 23 hotels nationwide are rebranded as 12 “Grand Mercure” and 11 “Mercure” properties. 22 open that month; the opening of Mercure Noto Resort & Spa is postponed due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake |
There is a pattern to the names. “Grand Mercure” is the upscale brand and “Mercure” the standard brand, and both follow the format “place name + Resort & Spa” (Sapporo Odori Park, Nara Kashihara, Okinawa Cape Zanpa and Saga Karatsu drop the “& Spa”). Where the old names used a nearby local landmark, such as “Rindoko,” “Genkai,” “Nagahama” or “Amanohashidate Miyazu,” the current names substitute a broader regional name: “Nasu Highlands,” “Fukuoka Munakata,” “Lake Biwa” and “Kyoto Miyazu.” Rather than guessing the current name from the old one, it is quicker to look it up in the table below. For other hotels that people often search for by their old names, we have also compiled current names and rates in Sunroute Plaza Tokyo Is Now Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel First Resort and Is Yukai Resort Gone? Rates are OTA listed prices (retrieved October 22, 2026, for stay dates November 1–30, 2026; per room for 2 guests, tax included; lowest plan on sale). N=619 property-nights (22 hotels). Mercure Noto Resort & Spa was damaged in the January 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake and postponed its opening; its operator, Destination Resorts & Hotels Management, later announced that the opening plan had been terminated (Hokkoku Shimbun, September 29, 2026; Daiwa House Industry reacquired the land and building effective August 31 of that year). No rates are on sale. Source: HotelBank Editorial Team research.
Five other former Daiwa Royal Hotels — Minami Hokkaido Shikabe, Iwate Hachimantai, Yamanaka Onsen Kajikaso, Fukuoka Yahata and Kirishima — have closed and are no longer part of the Daiwa Resort group. Of these, the Yamanaka Onsen and Kirishima properties reopened in August 2025 under different operators as “Yamanaka Onsen Kajikaso (山中温泉 河鹿荘)” and “The Pulse Kirishima (ザ・パルス霧島).”
November Listed Rates: Median of ¥25,400 Across 22 Hotels, with 4 Bookable from the ¥12,000–¥13,000 Range
Across the 22 hotels and 619 property-nights, the median of the cheapest bookable plan for November is ¥25,400 (per room, 2 guests, tax included), and the lowest observed rate was ¥9,100 (Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto Resort & Spa). The median for the 12 Grand Mercure hotels (the median of each property’s median) is ¥23,900, versus ¥21,700 for the 10 Mercure hotels, so the price gap between the two brands is not large. Location and season matter more than brand: properties whose November coincides with autumn foliage or holiday weekends see their price floor rise.

By property, six hotels have a median cheapest-plan rate below ¥15,000: Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto (¥12,700), Mercure Toyama Tonami (¥13,200), Mercure Urabandai (¥13,800), Mercure Miyagi Zao (¥13,800), Grand Mercure Lake Hamana (¥14,500) and Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park (¥14,800). By contrast, Grand Mercure Beppu Bay (¥51,600) is sold out on 11 nights in November, and what remains is mostly higher-tier plans, which pushes its median up. Ise-Shima, Awaji Island, Okinawa Cape Zanpa, Nara Kashihara and Kochi Tosa start at around ¥30,000, reflecting November foliage and leisure-travel demand. For a sense of how the city-center Sapporo Odori Park property might move its prices after the rebrand, another Sapporo hotel offers a useful reference: the former Sapporo Tobu Hotel, now Fairfield by Marriott Sapporo, has six years of post-rebrand results.
How to Choose: Narrow It Down on Three Axes
1. If budget is the deciding factor, look at both the “median” and the “monthly low.” The rightmost column of the table shows both. Even where the median exceeds ¥15,000, properties with a monthly low around ¥10,000 (Yatsugatake ¥11,000, Minamiboso ¥9,700) have cheaper nights on weekdays or in the first half of the month. Conversely, properties with a small gap between median and low (Miyagi Zao, Urabandai) offer predictable prices whichever night you stay.
2. Families should choose based on children’s rates and indoor facilities. Many of these properties have had strong family demand since their Daiwa Royal Hotel days. Grand Mercure Nasu Highlands Resort & Spa has an indoor kids’ space, and its November median cheapest rate is ¥20,600. For a month-by-month and day-of-week comparison of Nasu hotels from a family perspective, see this Japanese-language guide to the cheapest nights for families in Nasu (kazokustay).
3. If hot springs and large public baths matter most, choose by category-level review scores. The 23 hotels have accumulated 213,554 reviews in total, and strengths differ by category. These are summarized in the next section.
Highest-Rated Review Categories: Breakfast at Nara Kashihara, Baths at Kochi Tosa
Aggregating the public reviews we have collected (23 hotels, N=213,554 in total, as accumulated at October 22, 2026) by category, Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara scores highest for breakfast (4.34, N=3,756), and Mercure Kochi Tosa Resort & Spa scores highest for baths and hot springs (4.41, N=1,313). For cleanliness, the two city hotels, Nara Kashihara and Sapporo Odori Park, are tied in the 4.2 range.
| Category | Property | Category score (out of 5) | N (reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakfast | Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara | 4.34 | 3,756 |
| Breakfast | Mercure Kochi Tosa Resort & Spa | 4.32 | 2,147 |

| Breakfast | Grand Mercure Nasu Highlands Resort & Spa | 4.25 | 3,385 |
| Baths / hot springs | Mercure Kochi Tosa Resort & Spa | 4.41 | 1,313 |

At properties with highly rated breakfasts, a breakfast-inclusive plan is worth choosing over room-only. The top bath and hot-spring scorers — Kochi Tosa, Kushimoto, Tonami and Yatsugatake — range widely in November median cheapest rates, from the ¥12,000s to the ¥30,000s, so if hot springs are your goal, read the scores together with the rate table.

Methodology and Sources
Rates are aggregated from OTA public data: listed prices (per room for 2 guests, tax included) retrieved on October 22, 2026, for stays from November 1 to 30, 2026. For each stay date, we took the cheapest plan on sale at that time and excluded sold-out dates. Property-level figures are the median and minimum over the 30 nights (excluding sold-out nights); the overall figure is the median across 22 hotels and 619 property-nights. Final listed prices of plans that had already sold out are not included, so figures may be higher than cheaper plans that were offered earlier. Room counts are from our own records. Reviews are public reviews we collected, aggregated by category; no individual review text is quoted. Company names, the transfer date and the rebrand timing are based on Daiwa House Industry’s announcement (December 8, 2022), HotelBank’s earlier reports (December 14, 2022 and July 21, 2023), and a press release from the sister property Mercure Toyama Tonami Resort & Spa (June 20, 2025).
