With the summer 2026 fireworks season just ahead, mentions of “the view from the room” in guest reviews are rising nationwide. An NLP analysis of the guest-review data compiled by MetroEngines Research shows that the mention share of the “view from the room” tag reached 9.79% over the most recent three months (April–July 2026), up +1.41 points from the trailing 12-month average of 8.37% (a relative gain of +16.9%). It became the 9th-fastest-growing tag across all categories. This article extracts the national TOP 30 properties with the highest “view” ratings and, using data on N=69,379 guest reviews and N=26,542 view mentions, verifies the structure whereby more than half of them sit within 5 km of a major summer 2026 fireworks venue.
Metric Definitions Used in This Article
- View mention share (mention_pct): Among the guest reviews posted for a given property, the share of reviews that touch on the view from the room (NLP analysis). This is an indicator of how often the view is mentioned, not a score (1–5 points); the two are distinct.
- Aggregation period: Guest reviews posted over the most recent 24 months (July 2024–July 2026).
- Scope: Properties with at least N=15 positive view mentions and at least N=20 total reviews.
- Fireworks 5 km zone: Using each fireworks display’s launch coordinates (venue center) as the reference, properties within a Haversine distance of 5 km are judged “within the zone.”
- Data source: HotelBank Editorial Team research (NLP analysis)
- — The “view from the room” mention share is 9.79% (most recent three months; up +1.41 points from the trailing 12-month average of 8.37%), ranking 9th of all 79 tags for growth.
- — A majority of the TOP 30 by view mention rate sit within 5 km of a major summer 2026 fireworks venue, with harbors and lakefronts as the main battleground.
- — Of the TOP 30’s total reviews (N=69,379, of which view mentions were N=26,542 — 38.3% overall, and a simple per-property average of 43.7%), the figure stands out as remarkably high.
- — The prefecture distribution is led by Kanagawa, Tokyo, Hyogo and Yamanashi, with bayside night views and lakefront locations driving up view ratings.
- — Even outside the 5 km fireworks zone, properties with spectacular Mt. Fuji, Hiroshima Bay, Ise Bay and Shinano River locations remain at the top of view ratings, functioning as a year-round demand base.
“View” Is One of the Fastest-Rising Rating Axes in Reviews
First, let us confirm how “view” mentions are changing across guest reviews nationwide. When MetroEngines Research applied NLP to roughly 1.93 million reviews from the most recent 15 months, the “view from the room” tag recorded a mention share of 9.79% over the most recent three months versus a trailing 12-month average of 8.37% — a rise of +1.41 points (relative +16.9%). Excluding major rating axes such as price range, location and staff, this is the 9th-largest gain among all tags. According to our Tokyo language-based review rating gap analysis, which used the same method to examine differences in rating axes by language, Japanese guests and inbound guests tend to weight “view” differently — a finding that affects how properties should design their communications.
“View” is by nature neither a facility a property can newly build nor an element that can be acquired through additional investment. The very fact that guest interest is nonetheless rising suggests that the nature of the travel experience itself is shifting toward an “experience completed inside the room.” In the summer fireworks season in particular, an alternative to the traditional model of looking up amid crowds around the venue — namely “watching quietly, coolly, and with family from the room” — is creating a new demand segment. How premium-view rooms at Lake Suwa, Lake Biwa and Atami are forming price premiums is analyzed down to the individual-property level in our lake-and-sea-view rooms with firework views feature.

National TOP 30 — Overlap of View Mention Share and the Fireworks 5 km Zone
When the national TOP 30 properties by view mention share are ranked, an interesting skew emerges. Of the TOP 30’s total reviews (N=69,379), view mentions account for N=26,542 (38.3% overall; a simple per-property average of 43.7%). In other words, at these properties nearly one in every two guests comments on “the view from the room.”
Furthermore, classifying these 30 hotels by whether they fall within a 5 km radius of the launch venues of the 11 major fireworks displays held in summer 2026, 17 (57% of the total) qualify as “positioned so that fireworks may be visible from the room.” Located along harbors, lakefronts and coastlines, these hotels have long been chosen for their “view” ratings in ordinary times, but in fireworks season they gain the added scarcity value of “visible from the room without going to the venue.”

Breakdown of the TOP 15 — The Fireworks-Season Battleground Is Harbors and Lakefronts
When the TOP 15 are ordered by view mention rate, the properties shown in dark blue are within the fireworks 5 km zone, and those in light blue are outside it. Fully 11 of them concentrate along the harbors, lakefronts and coastlines that become the main battleground of the fireworks season.

Catchment by Fireworks Display — Clusters Within the 5 km Zone
Breaking it down by fireworks display, the greatest concentration of in-zone properties is at the Port of Yokohama (Port Opening Festival Fireworks) with 5, followed by the Port of Kobe and Tokyo Bay (Odaiba) with 3 each, and the Sumida River with 2. This is because bayside fireworks displays are held at locations ringed by multiple layers of high-rise hotels; in such areas, a “view premium” staircase forms depending on the floor and orientation of the room.
- Yokohama Port Opening Festival Fireworks: 5 — #2 New Otani Inn Yokohama Premium, #3 Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu, #6 Hotel New Grand, #12 Yokohama Royal Park Hotel, #19 Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel
- Kobe Minato no Hanabi: 3 — #1 Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel, #8 Hotel Okura Kobe, #29 Kobe Portopia Hotel
- Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival: 3 — #14 Park Hotel Tokyo, #16 The Prince Park Tower Tokyo, #23 Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba
- Sumida River Fireworks Festival: 2 — #15 Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo, #18 Asakusa View Hotel
- Lake Biwa Great Fireworks Festival: 1 — #5 Biwako Otsu Prince Hotel
- Atami Sea Fireworks Festival: 1 — #11 Hotel New Akao
- Matsushima Zuiganji Toro Nagashi Fireworks: 1 — #13 Hotel Matsushima Taikanso
- Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival: 1 — #17 Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower

Properties With High View Ratings Even Outside the Fireworks 5 km Zone — Mt. Fuji, Hiroshima Bay, Ise Bay, Shinano River
The 13 properties that did not fall within the fireworks 5 km zone each hold a different kind of view asset. In the Yamanashi area overlooking Mt. Fuji, the three properties Fuji View Hotel (view mention rate 69.8%; more than two in three guests mention the view), Ji Yu Yu Rakuyu (61.1%) and Hotel Mystays Fujisan Tenbo Onsen (42.0%) are located to frame Mt. Fuji from the room across the shore of Lake Kawaguchi. Facing Hiroshima Bay, Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima (43.9%) and Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima (37.1%) offer night views of the Seto Inland Sea and the city; in front of Nagoya Station, Nagoya Prince Hotel Sky Tower (54.4%) offers a cityscape from ultra-high floors; and Hotel Nikko Niigata (57.3%) holds a view asset overlooking the Shinano River and Sado Island.
Although these fall outside the fireworks-season demand spike, they are locations that can sell “the scenery inside the room” year-round, holding the potential to continuously enjoy the tailwind of the recently rising “view” mentions.
Distribution by Prefecture — Led by Kanagawa, Tokyo, Hyogo and Yamanashi
Looking at the prefecture distribution of the TOP 30, Kanagawa and Tokyo tie for the most with 5 each, followed by Hyogo and Yamanashi with 3 each, then Chiba, Hiroshima, Aichi, Miyagi and Osaka with 2 each, and Shiga, Shizuoka, Fukuoka and Niigata with 1 each. The greater Tokyo area plus the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe region account for 17 properties in total, or 57% of the whole. This shows a structure in which areas with concentrated bayside, lakefront and high-rise tourism demand monopolize the top of the view ratings.

Summer 2026: Demand Opportunities and Interpretation for the Fireworks Season
“View,” whose nationwide review mention share has surged over the most recent three months, is an element that is hard for properties to control. Yet at the same time it is a scarce weapon that lets properties already holding view assets absorb demand at zero additional investment. In the summer 2026 fireworks season in particular, three demand opportunities come into focus.
First is the emergence of a “fireworks premium” in the bayside clusters (Port of Yokohama, Port of Kobe, Tokyo Bay). Of the TOP 30, 11 concentrate in these three clusters, and view ratings on the day of a fireworks display can be expected to carry a premium several times that of ordinary times. For properties, the interpretation is that rather than simply promoting “rooms with a firework view,” providing information that clarifies in advance “from which floor and which orientation, and up to what shell size, the fireworks are visible” — using review information and past photos — is likely to help convert to direct bookings.
Second, properties whose view mention rate exceeds 60% even outside the fireworks 5 km zone (Fuji View Hotel, Ji Yu Yu Rakuyu) hold year-round view assets and can absorb demand consistently regardless of season. These properties do not depend on the temporary peak of the fireworks season and have established a structure that draws “guests whose purpose is the scenery” throughout the four seasons.
Third, the very nationwide trend of rising “view” mentions is a growth opportunity for mid-size properties that have not fully leveraged their existing view assets. Among those that did not make the TOP 30, properties located in bayside, lakefront and mountain areas may be able to ride the tailwind of the rising tag through communications that link review expressions to “view” (photos from the room, scenery by time of day, seasonal changes). Regarding the structure of turning the room experience itself into a differentiation asset, our verification of the ADR premium for rooms with a private open-air bath shows the price elasticity of another “scarcity value inside the room” alongside the view.
Summary
Given the backdrop that “view” mentions in guest reviews are rising nationwide (+1.41pt / +16.9%), the summer 2026 fireworks season is likely to be a short-term demand window in which “the room experience itself becomes a tourist destination” for properties that already hold view assets. The result that 57% of the national TOP 30 (17 properties) sit within 5 km of a major fireworks venue shows that this overlap of demand and supply is not coincidental but is rooted in the very structure of the bayside- and lakefront-type hotel industry.
For properties, there is room to redefine existing scenic assets from two angles: (1) a short-term strategy aiming at the temporary premium of the fireworks season, and (2) a medium- to long-term strategy riding the year-round rise in “view” mentions. While no additional investment is required, depending on how communications and room allocation are designed, the potential indicated by review mention rates can be drawn out substantially.

■ Data Source
Guest-review data compiled by MetroEngines Research & Consulting (total N=1,928,717) classified into 79 tags via a proprietary NLP pipeline. The scope of analysis is positive mentions related to the “view from the room” tag (room_view). Aggregation period: most recent three months (April–July 2026); comparison baseline: trailing 12-month average.
■ Estimation Assumptions
The TOP 30 ranking targets properties with “at least N=15 positive view mentions” and “at least N=20 total reviews.” The fireworks 5 km zone determination is calculated by Haversine distance from each organizing committee’s announced launch-venue coordinates and the property’s latitude and longitude. View mention rate = number of positive view mentions ÷ total reviews × 100.
■ Limitations and Caveats
Because review data depends on the voluntary posting of reviewers, posting volume varies across properties, and mention rates for properties with few reviews have a wide range of variation — a point to keep in mind. The fireworks 5 km zone is based on launch venues; whether fireworks are actually visible from the room varies by direction, high floor and obstructions. The correlation between view ratings and occupancy or ADR is outside the scope of this analysis.
