Kyushu Fukko-Wari Closed Online? 84 of 222 Still on Hotel Sites
Posted: 2026.10.22"I tried to book with the Kyushu Fukko Ouenwari (Kyushu Recovery Support Discount), but the booking sites only show 'applications closed' or 'suspended.'" The short answer: when a booking site says the discount is closed, it means the allocation assigned to that sales channel has run out, not necessarily the allocation hotels sell directly on their own official websites. As of October 22, 2026, two major online travel booking sites announced that coupon applications had ended or been suspended for all seven Kyushu prefectures. Yet on the evening of the same day, a search in the ChatGPT app "HotelME" for Kumamoto, November 13–15 (2 adults, 1 night), found discount-eligible plans on hotels' official booking sites in 84 of the 222 property-date results checked. This article explains how to search, with ready-to-use prompts, how to read the answers, and what to verify before booking. About the data in this article • Program details and prefecture-level periods are based on the Japan Tourism Agency's "Kyushu Fukko Ouenwari" page (updated October 16, 2026), the official Kyushu Fukko Ouenwari information site, and Kagoshima Prefecture's notice (updated October 10, 2026). • Booking-site application status reflects notices from two major online travel booking sites checked on...

Minakami & Takaragawa Onsen Bears: 703 Gunma Sightings, Fall 2026
Posted: 2026.10.22The Minakami Onsen area (Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture) lies within Asian black bear habitat, and sightings are reported every year. As of autumn 2026, however, the prefecture has published only two bear-related injuries statewide for the year (in Kiryu and Midori, both inside mountain forest), and neither occurred in Minakami's hot spring towns. Inns at Minakami Onsen and Takaragawa Onsen are operating as normal. As for the bears long kept at Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku (宝川温泉 汪泉閣), a 2019 first-hand account records that their cages had been removed, and the inn's official website no longer mentions them. The quickest way to be certain is to ask the inn directly. This article walks through, in the order a traveler can act on it, where to check sighting information, how a hot-spring-town hotel differs from a secluded mountain inn, what to ask the inn before you go, and listed room prices for autumn and winter 2026. Key Takeaways — Two injuries in the prefecture: The two bear-related injuries Gunma Prefecture has published for FY2026 (as of the October 16 update) both occurred inside mountain forest in Kiryu and Midori, not in Minakami's hot spring towns. — Sightings running about 1.4x last year: Gunma...

Washington Hotel’s Two Operators: WHG vs Washington Hotel Corp.
Posted: 2026.10.22Hotels bearing the name "Washington Hotel" are run by two different companies: (1) WHG Hotels, operated by Fujita Kanko (Washington Hotel / Hotel Gracery / Hotel Tavinos), and (2) Washington Hotel Corporation (ワシントンホテル株式会社), headquartered in Nagoya (Washington Hotel Plaza / Washington R&B Hotel). If a property name includes "Plaza" or "R&B," it belongs to (2); if it says "Gracery" or "Tavinos," it belongs to (1); and a property named simply "[City] Washington Hotel" is almost always (1). Remember this and you won't mix up booking sites and loyalty programs. The two companies jointly hold the "Washington Hotel" trademark and signed a business alliance on February 12, 2026. They announced that their loyalty programs would become mutually usable from April 1 of that year, making it easier for members of either program to book the other company's hotels through official channels (Fujita Kanko news release, February 12, 2026). This article covers how to tell the two companies apart, what each is best used for, listed prices at representative properties, and the current answer when you search by a property name and can't find it — such as "Shizuoka," "Kansai Airport," "Izumi-Chuo," or "Aomori." All prices are OTA listed prices (2 adults...

What Is Bleisure? Japan’s Policy and Thu–Sat Hotel OCC in 5 Cities
Posted: 2026.10.20Of the two “New Travel Styles” the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) has funded and promoted, workation and bleisure, this article covers the latter: business travelers attaching leisure time to a trip and extending their stay. It is written for hotel operators and investors, and does not cover how individual travelers should spend their time. For five cities with deep business-travel demand (Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Hiroshima and Fukuoka), we lined up the estimated occupancy of business hotels by day of week for June 10 to August 31, 2026, as compiled by MetroEngines Research. Occupancy fell 0.8–3.6pt from Thursday to Friday, while the Friday-to-Saturday change ranged from −1.2pt to +2.5pt, with the direction differing by city. We overlay this day-of-week shape with average length of stay from the JTA’s Overnight Travel Statistics Survey and with guest-review mention patterns, quantify bleisure demand, and set out three ways to capture it: Friday rate design, Saturday multi-night plans, and amenities that lengthen time spent on property.
