Royal Park Hotel, operated by Mitsubishi Estate Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., held a free event titled “Let’s Learn! SDGs at the Hotel 2026” on March 25, 2026, at its property in Nihonbashi, Chuo Ward, Tokyo, targeting incoming fifth-grade students from nearby elementary schools. The event has been held continuously since 2023 and marked its fourth iteration this year. With the goal of deepening local children’s understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year’s program once again partnered with Dole Japan, Inc., which is headquartered in the Nihonbashi area, to provide a learning experience centered on the theme of food.

The day’s program centered on presentations by hotel staff and used quiz formats to introduce concrete SDGs initiatives such as the adoption of environmentally friendly amenities and efforts to reduce food waste. Through a tour of the property, participating children were able to see recycled plastic products firsthand and learn about community partnership initiatives and the reuse of food byproducts. In particular, an initiative that recycles trimmings produced during the manufacturing of the popular “Fuwa Tera” product into separate items was introduced through a live demonstration, providing an opportunity to deepen understanding of the effective use of resources.

In addition, an explanation was given about Dole’s “Mottainai Banana Project,” sharing the current state of bananas that are discarded due to being out of specification and how they can be put to good use. Through a tasting of the “Mottainai Banana Mont Blanc” served as a sample, the children appeared to grasp the issue of food loss as something close to home. In a post-event survey, all participants expressed a desire to take part again, indicating heightened interest in initiatives that bring companies and communities together as well as a growing awareness of avoiding food waste.

Royal Park Hotel intends to continue activities aimed at realizing a sustainable society while remaining rooted in the Nihonbashi community. This initiative stands out as a meaningful effort to provide the next generation of children with an enjoyable opportunity to learn about pressing social issues.
