Toyoko Inn Cancellation Fee: Free Until Noon on the Day of Stay (2026)

Travel Styles

At Toyoko Inn (東横INN), a booking on a standard plan made through the official website or official app can be cancelled free of charge until 12:00 noon on the day of stay. There is no penalty tier for cancelling the day before or earlier, so you can hold off deciding until the morning of the night you stay — the defining feature of Toyoko Inn’s rules. Based on the current rules on the official website (checked October 13, 2026), this article covers how the deadline is counted, how to cancel, and the cases where different rules apply — everything you need to know before you book.

Key Takeaways
  • — Free cancellation runs until 12:00 noon on the day of stay (standard plans booked on the official website or app; confirmed on the official site October 13, 2026). You can defer the decision until three hours before check-in opens at 15:00.
  • — For consecutive stays, the second and later nights are free to cancel until 10:00 a.m. on the day you drop. That is the same as the check-out time, so deciding that morning is early enough.
  • — Cancel where you booked. Official website and app bookings are cancelled from My Page after logging in; if the deadline has passed or the screen does not allow the change, phone the hotel you are staying at.
  • — Prepaid, group and third-party bookings follow different rules. Prepaid amounts cancelled before use are refunded via the card company; group bookings (10+ rooms) have a tiered scale from 7 days out, with no penalty for partial cancellations of up to 10% of contracted rooms; bookings via other sites follow that site’s rules.
  • — “Free until 16:00 on the day” is the old rule. Toyoko Inn moved the free-cancellation cut-off to noon for stays from April 1, 2025, and the current official pages all show 12:00 noon.

Short answer: cancellation is free until 12:00 noon on the day of stay

The cancellation-fee rules published on Toyoko Inn’s official “How to Use Toyoko INN” (東横INNの利用方法) page consist of just the following two lines (checked October 13, 2026).

Table 1 Cancellation fees for official website/app bookings (standard plans, up to 9 rooms)
When you cancel Cancellation fee
Until 12:00 on the day of stay 0% (free)
After 12:00 on the day of stay / no-show 100% of the room charge

Source: Toyoko Inn official website, “How to Use Toyoko INN” and Appendix Table 2 of the “Terms and Conditions for Accommodation” (ご宿泊に伴う利用規約) (general bookings of up to 9 rooms). Original text checked October 13, 2026.

Appendix Table 2 of the terms of accommodation also sets general bookings (up to 9 rooms) at “until 12:00 on the day: 0%”, matching the guidance on the How to Use page. Since rebooking costs nothing as many times as you like until noon, the rules support a “hold a room for now and decide on the morning of the stay” approach.

The penalty table in the Japan Tourism Agency’s “Model Terms and Conditions for Accommodation” (モデル宿泊約款; last amended December 13, 2023), the template for hotel terms, has columns for no-show, same day, the day before, 9 days before and 20 days before even for general bookings, with each property setting its own rates. For general bookings (up to 9 rooms), Toyoko Inn uses only the no-show and same-day columns, and sets the same-day rate at 0% until noon, so there is no penalty tier at all for cancellations the day before or earlier.

Some aggregator sites still state “free until 16:00 on the day”, but that is the previous rule. Toyoko Inn moved the cut-off to noon for stays from April 1, 2025 (confirmed in industry reporting dated April 1, 2025), and the current official rule is 12:00 noon on the day of stay. The rules shown on the booking screen are final, but as of October 13, 2026 both the How to Use page and the terms of accommodation on the official site consistently say 12:00.

How the deadline is counted — “12:00 noon on the day” means noon on the check-in date

“The day” means the night you stay (the check-in date). Check-in at Toyoko Inn opens at 15:00, so free cancellation lasts until three hours before check-in opens. For a stay on Tuesday, October 20, for example, cancellations up to 12:00 on October 20 are free. Even if you are still undecided the night before, you can make the call on the morning of the stay after checking transport conditions and your meeting schedule.

For consecutive stays, the second and later nights: “10:00 a.m. on the day you drop”

If your plans change partway through a multi-night stay, a separate deadline applies. Note *2 to Appendix Table 2 of the terms of accommodation states that “cancellation of the accommodation contract for the second and subsequent nights of a consecutive stay is 0% until 10:00 a.m. on the day the stay is cancelled.” Since check-out is at 10:00, telling the front desk that morning makes dropping the following nights free.

The notes to the terms also state that when a consecutive stay is shortened, the penalty is “one day (the first day) regardless of the number of days shortened.” Even if you drop three nights after the deadline, the penalty is capped at one day.

If you will arrive late, one phone call keeps your booking

If you pass the estimated arrival time you gave when booking without getting in touch, the booking is treated as cancelled (How to Use page, “Late arrival / cancellation”). Put the other way round, if you phone the hotel when you expect to be late, your booking is held. On days when a delayed shinkansen or a dinner running long will make you late, the safe move is to call before you arrive.

How to cancel — as a rule, do it where you booked

Article 6 of Toyoko Inn’s Account Terms of Use (アカウント利用規約; revised and effective September 29, 2026) states that changes and cancellations to stays booked on the official website or app are to be made “through this system.” Where to cancel for each booking channel is as follows.

Table 2 Where to cancel, by booking channel
Booking channel Where to cancel Notes (from official sources)
Official website (PC / smartphone) My Page after logging in: “Check / change / cancel reservations” Changes that are hard to make on screen, such as new dates, are handled by cancelling and rebooking. You may not be able to rebook if the hotel is full, so check availability before cancelling
Official app My Page in the app (same account as the official website) Bookings, checking/changing/cancelling reservations and the digital membership card are all handled in one app. How to use the membership card is explained in our digital membership card guide.

Bookings made as a member (Toyoko INN Club Card) can be cancelled from the same My Page linked to your official website/app account. If you are deciding whether to join, check the rules on presenting the membership card and on when the 5% member discount applies before you book; free breakfast and the 5% member discount are features of the brand as a whole.

Cases where different rules apply — prepaid, group and third-party bookings

For anything other than a standard plan on the official website, the deadline and refund handling change as follows. Everything here is limited to what is stated on the official website.

Source: Toyoko Inn official website, “How to Use Toyoko INN”, Appendix Table 2 of the “Terms and Conditions for Accommodation”, and the “Notation under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act”. Checked October 13, 2026. “Up to 8 days before” for groups is stated as the converse of the rule that penalties start at 7 days before.

For prepaid plans, the site states plainly that “cancellations before use are refunded via the card company,” so if you cancel by 12:00 noon on the day of stay, the room charge you already paid comes back to you (the timing of the refund depends on the card company’s processing). For groups, the rules allow adjustments of up to 10% of the rooms contracted as of 7 days before without penalty, so even for company trips or team business travel where headcount is not yet final, you can hold rooms with a 10% margin.

Applying this to each contracted room count gives the number of rooms that can be partially cancelled without a penalty:

Table 4 Rooms that can be partially cancelled without a penalty, group bookings (10+ rooms)
Contracted rooms as of 7 days before Rooms exempt from penalty (10%, rounded up)
10 rooms Up to 1 room
15 rooms Up to 2 rooms
20 rooms Up to 2 rooms
30 rooms Up to 3 rooms
50 rooms Up to 5 rooms

Source: Editorial calculation applying Notes 3 and 4 to Appendix Table 2 of Toyoko Inn’s “Terms and Conditions for Accommodation” (revised September 29, 2026). If the booking is made later than 7 days before, the base is the number of contracted rooms on the day the booking was accepted. If a separate contract such as a “group booking confirmation” has been concluded, that contract takes precedence. Checked October 13, 2026.

Knowing the size of the penalty makes the decision quicker. As a benchmark, Toyoko INN’s weekday listed price is ¥8,400 (median of the cheapest plan, 2 guests per room, tax included; stay on November 10, 2026, OTA-listed prices as of October 7, 2026, N=290). Whether you cancel before noon decides whether you pay that one night in full.

Typhoons and cancelled flights — how waivers are decided

This article has covered the standard rules for when you change plans for your own reasons. When typhoons, heavy snow or earthquakes stop transport, the decision turns on the terms of accommodation’s concept of causes “attributable to” the guest and on calling the hotel in the right order; keeping objective facts such as operators’ suspension announcements makes it easier to ask about a waiver or a date change. Because Toyoko Inn cancellations are free until noon on the day of stay, the basic approach in a typhoon is the same: you can wait for the morning’s service announcements before acting. For hotels in general, whether and how much you pay to cancel is determined by each property’s terms of accommodation and the booking plan.

Three points to remember before you book

1. The deadline is “12:00 noon on the night you stay”, or “10:00 a.m. on the day you drop” partway through a consecutive stay. Both cut-offs come before check-in or check-out, so deciding in the morning means no charge.

2. Cancel where you booked. Official website and app bookings are handled entirely in My Page; if the deadline has passed or the screen cannot be used, phone the hotel. For bookings via other sites, the cancellation is complete once you have talked to the hotel by phone and then finished the cancellation on the site you booked through.

3. Booking on the official website or app lets you check the rules and cancel on the same screen. Official prices below the regular rate, the 5% member discount and the refund route for prepaid bookings all sit in one account, so the more a business trip needs a last-minute decision, the more the official channel makes sense. When you want to compare Toyoko Inn with other hotels in the city you are staying in, a comparison such as five business hotels within a 7-minute walk of Kobe’s Sannomiya Station (innippon, in Japanese) — by walking time from the station, room count and price range — makes the choice easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Until when can I cancel a Toyoko Inn booking for free?

A. On standard plans booked through the official website or official app, you can cancel free of charge until 12:00 noon on the day of stay (confirmed on the official website, October 13, 2026). For the second and later nights of a consecutive stay, cancellation is free until 10:00 a.m. on the day you drop. Cancellations after 12:00 and no-shows are subject to the penalties in the terms of accommodation.

Q. How do I cancel a Toyoko Inn booking?

A. If you booked on the official website or app, cancel from My Page after logging in, under “Check / change / cancel reservations”. If the My Page deadline has passed or the screen cannot be used, phone the hotel you are staying at directly. Bookings made via another booking site are cancelled from that site’s My Page.

Q. Will I be refunded for a prepaid booking (online card payment)?

A. If you cancel before the stay, the room charge already paid is refunded via the credit card company (Notation under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act). The deadline is the same as for standard plans — 12:00 noon on the day of stay — and where a plan has its own rules, what is shown on the booking screen takes precedence.

Q. I have seen “free until 16:00 on the day”. Which is correct?

A. The current official rule is 12:00 noon on the day of stay. Toyoko Inn moved the cut-off from 16:00 to noon for stays from April 1, 2025, and as of October 13, 2026 both the official “How to Use Toyoko INN” page and Appendix Table 2 of the terms of accommodation say 12:00. If you come across older information, treat the official website as authoritative.

Methodology and Sources

All rules in this article are taken directly from the current pages of Toyoko Inn’s official website, referenced on October 13, 2026. Secondary information from aggregator sites was not used as a basis. Because rules can be revised, the rules shown on the booking screen at the time of booking are authoritative.

■ Data sources

Toyoko Inn’s official “How to Use Toyoko INN”, “Terms and Conditions for Accommodation” (revised September 29, 2026), “Account Terms of Use” and “Notation under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act” were checked in the original on October 13, 2026. The timing of the rule change was confirmed in industry reporting dated April 1, 2025, and the format of the terms in the Japan Tourism Agency’s “Model Terms and Conditions for Accommodation”. The price benchmark is OTA-listed prices compiled by the HotelBank Editorial Team.

■ Calculation assumptions

This article explains the rules and does not estimate cancellation-fee amounts. The ¥8,400 price benchmark is the median of the cheapest plan for a stay on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, 2 guests per room, tax included (as of October 7, 2026, N=290). Table 4 directly applies Note 3 of the terms: “10% of the rooms contracted as of 7 days before (fractions rounded up).”

■ Limitations

Rules may be revised, and the rules shown on the booking screen at the time of booking take precedence. Plan-specific rules, corporate contracts, separate agreements such as group booking confirmations, and other sites’ rules vary case by case, so this article covers only what is stated on the official website. Handling during typhoons and other disasters is outside the scope of this article.
