Background of Hiroshima Station Development

Hiroshima City, the largest city in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions and a government-designated city, is well known as a tourist destination related to history, including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Hiroshima Station is used for land travel to Hiroshima City.

The background of the station building development at Hiroshima Station includes the development policy for the south exit area of the station proposed by Hiroshima City. The target area includes the vicinity of Hiroshima Station and the Kamiyacho and Hatchobori areas, recognized as entertainment districts. By positioning this area as the ‘core of the city center,’ the city aims to accumulate urban functions, promoting an ‘elliptical city center creation’ that enhances both areas mutually.

In the vicinity of Hiroshima Station, from the reconstruction of the station building to the construction of a new stadium for ‘Sanfrecce Hiroshima,’ a J-League team, planned to be their home stadium from next year, and the maintenance of Hiroshima Castle, development projects are underway. Hiroshima City, which already attracts tourists from both Japan and overseas, is expected to become even more convenient and vibrant, promising further revitalization in the future.
