Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Resorttrust, Inc. are set to begin a proof-of-concept study in September 2024, utilizing a smart ring to analyze the health of hotel guests and offer personalized services. The smart ring, equipped with an optical sensor and Murata’s proprietary algorithm, will analyze guests’ peripheral blood circulation. Based on this analysis, the system will propose tailored activities designed to enhance well-being during their stay, offering a new approach to supporting guests in extending their healthy lifespan.
This study will take place at a resort hotel, focusing on the theme of combining wellness with the hotel experience. Guests will wear the smart ring, which monitors their circulatory condition and provides personalized activity suggestions. These could include spa treatments, massage therapy, or gym workouts, all of which will be aligned with the guest’s physical state, supporting their health throughout their stay.
As society continues to age, the extension of healthy life expectancy has become a critical issue, particularly in the context of what is often referred to as the “100-year life era.” Lifestyle-related diseases, such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, are linked to poor lifestyle habits and are closely tied to circulatory and vascular health. To address these challenges, Murata has developed technology that uses the smart ring’s optical sensor to capture photoplethysmographic signals across various wavelengths. Their proprietary algorithm then analyzes the peripheral blood circulation, enabling a clear understanding of the guest’s circulatory health and allowing for the recommendation of optimal health activities.
Murata Manufacturing is aiming to use this technology to contribute to the creation of a society where people can live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Through the optical sensors and algorithms embedded in the smart ring, the company plans to provide services that analyze, prevent, and help improve various health risks. Resorttrust Group, which operates within the medical field, shares this vision. With a focus on promoting healthy aging, their goal is to contribute to personal well-being in the context of the 100-year life era. Following this study, they plan to integrate the smart ring into their membership-based resorts, offering guests a new kind of value.
The proof-of-concept study will be held at Ashiya Baycourt Club for about a month from the end of September 2024. Murata will provide the smart ring device, its analysis algorithm, and the mobile application, while Resorttrust will manage the resort facilities and coordinate activities. Through this experiment, it is expected that resort guests will benefit from personalized services that support the extension of their healthy lifespans.
This initiative aims not only to provide a new hotel experience by combining hospitality with wellness but also to address societal challenges such as the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases and the extension of healthy life expectancy. As the project progresses, attention will be drawn to the potential impact of this collaboration between Murata Manufacturing and Resorttrust on the future of both the resort business and the health industry.
