Marriott International experienced strong growth in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Greater China) in 2024, securing a record-high 109 deals across 11 markets. This added 21,439 rooms to the regional development pipeline, bringing the total number of rooms to 77,532 by year-end. By expanding its business portfolio across the market, entering the midscale hotel segment, and strengthening its luxury offerings, the company has further solidified its position as a leader in the hospitality industry.
With these 109 deals signed in 2024, the regional pipeline in APEC grew by 12% year-over-year to 363 hotels and 77,532 rooms. India, Japan, and Indonesia showed particularly strong growth, accounting for 72% of the signed deals. Marriott also focused on enhancing its luxury portfolio, with over 20 agreements totaling more than 4,600 rooms, representing 19% of the total deals signed. This led to key developments such as the opening of EDITION hotels in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Mumbai, India, as well as The Ritz-Carlton properties in Jaipur and Udaipur, India, and a second W Hotel in Singapore.
Strategic multi-property agreements and conversion deals played a significant role in driving the pipeline expansion, with conversion projects making up 36% of all deals signed in 2024. In Japan, Marriott launched the Four Points Flex by Sheraton brand and partnered with global investment firm KKR to convert 14 hotels across 10 cities into Four Points Flex by Sheraton properties. In November 2024, Four Points Flex by Sheraton Osaka Umeda opened, marking Marriott’s 100th property in Japan.
Marriott also focused on expanding its market presence and introducing new brands. The opening of Marriott Executive Apartments Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea extended the company’s footprint in APEC to 22 countries and territories. Building on its success in Japan, South Korea, and Australia, the Moxy Hotels brand expanded into major cities in India, Malaysia, and Thailand, catering to a new generation of travelers.
Marriott achieved several milestone openings in APEC in 2024. Adelaide Marriott Hotel in Australia became the 600th property in the region, while Katra Marriott Resort & Spa marked the 150th property in India. In Malaysia, the Penang Marriott Complex became the 50th property in the country, while Four Points Flex by Sheraton Osaka Umeda opened as Marriott’s 100th property in Japan.
As of the end of 2024, Marriott International operated 635 properties across 25 brands in 22 countries and territories within APEC, further cementing its position as a leading player in the hospitality industry. With a diverse portfolio, the company continues to offer attractive opportunities for developers and real estate investors.
