Fuji Marriott Hotel Lake Yamanaka has been awarded the “Three Gyoiko Sakura” certification under the Sakura Quality An ESG Practice program, a tourism quality certification system operated by Sakura Quality Management Co., Ltd. This marks the first certification of its kind among accommodation facilities in Yamanashi Prefecture, recognizing the hotel’s highly regarded sustainability initiatives developed in collaboration with the local community. Sakura Quality An ESG Practice is a comprehensive evaluation system that assesses sustainability, community contribution, environmental awareness, and employee relations within the tourism industry, requiring initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The hotel promotes environmental responsibility through the introduction of wooden and bamboo amenities and initiatives to reduce plastic use. It also hosts an annual summer buffet themed around sustainability, contributing to children’s food education. Furthermore, by accepting local university interns and collecting plastic bottle caps to support the Yamanakako Council of Social Welfare, the hotel contributes to welfare for people with disabilities, environmental protection, and international cooperation. These continuous efforts have been recognized, leading to the recent attainment of the “Three Gyoiko Sakura” certification. Moving forward, Fuji Marriott Hotel Lake Yamanaka aims to further enhance quality and contribute to society as a hotel that builds a sustainable future for tourism in partnership with the community.
Sakura Quality An ESG Practice (commonly known as Sakura Quality Green) is a Japan-originated ESG certification developed by Sakura Quality Management Co., Ltd., the operator of the “Sakura Quality” accommodation quality certification system. Its certification standards were approved in March 2022 by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) in the United States and consist of 172 criteria based on the 17 SDGs goals. Facilities are evaluated on a five-level scale following responses to a detailed checklist and an on-site inspection by accredited auditors.
